DPU provides Los Alamos County with electric, natural gas, water and wastewater services. Residential and commercial rates can be found in the expandable sections below. 

Residential Rates & Fees

Electric

Commodity Charge = $0.1282 per KWh

Fixed Service Charge = $12.00 per month

Natural Gas

Fixed Service Charge:

Small meter (<=250 CFH) = $11.08/month

Large meter (>250 CFH) = $33.24/month

Sunset Recovery Rate:

No longer in effect. Previously, $0.44 per therm per month (effective 4/8/2023 - 2/29/2024)

Commodity Rate:

Varies monthly. Minimum allowable variable cost-of-gas rate = $0.11/therm

Fixed consumption charge = $0.27/therm

The cost of gas is calculated on a monthly basis and is effective the 8th of each month.

Sewer

TOTAL CHARGE = Fixed customer charge + Fixed monthly charge

Fixed customer charge = $12.85 per month

Properties with individual water meters 

Fixed monthly charge = $46.52 per month

Multi-family properties with shared water meters

Fixed monthly charge = $38.76 per dwelling unit/month

Each month's sewer charge is composed of the fixed service charge plus the variable commodity charge times the lesser of the following two usage computations:

1) Winter Average - If water consumption for any current month is higher than the winter average, sewer usage is determined by the winter average plus 8%. The winter measuring period is defined as the three consecutive billing periods beginning with the billing period with a billing date in the month of December.

OR

2) Actual Water Consumption - If water consumption for any current month is lower than the winter average, sewer usage is determined by actual water consumption plus 8%. Minimum water consumption is set at 2,000 gallons.

Waste & Recycling (Refuse)

DPU provides billing services for Los Alamos County's Environmental Services Division but does not fund or participate in Environmental Services' operations. Rates for weekly trash and recycling collection, as well as many other residential and commercial collection services and fees are determined by Environmental Services.

Applicable taxes are applied as follows:

Electric 7.0625% gross receipts tax

Gas 7.0625% gross receipts tax

Water 5.00% governmental gross receipts tax

Sewer 5.00% governmental gross receipts tax

Refuse 5.00% governmental gross receipts tax

A $10.00 fee will be charged when a new account is requested.

Meter Deposits

Commercial Customers Only:

 Commercial customers, without exception, are required to pay a deposit based on the two highest bills at the current location.
